Absolutely Unsure

There are perks to every career.  Pilots fly for free, physicians can self-diagnose, and plumbers never need to make an embarrassing emergency 2am call.  Naturally, a cake designer would have the most beautiful cake for his or her wedding.  Right?  Not so, lovely readers.   In fact, when faced with the decision of designing a wedding cake for themselves, cake designers have more angst than the average blushing bride because the pressure is on.  People are expecting to see something unlike any other cake.  The Mona Lisa of cakes.

Let’s rewind for a moment.

I am the blushing bride.  And yes, I have decided to create my own wedding cake.  I know what you’re thinking, and believe me, you’re not alone.  I’ve been told by the masses that I’ll regret my decision.  (They said the same thing when I told them I wanted a perm—thankfully I listened to them that time....)  Back to cake.   There are many ideas floating in my head: a grand 7-tiered cake piped to perfection à la Martha Stewart; a delicious croquembouche tower reminiscent of my time in Paris with my fiancé; or perhaps I draw inspiration from my wedding dress and design a cake that incorporates vintage lace with crystals.   As promising as these ideas sound in theory, the reality is that they don’t feel right.  The piped masterpiece has been done; the croquembouche needs attention the day of the wedding, and even I know that would be ridiculously ambitious; and the wedding dress inspired cake, well, um...well that doesn’t sounds so awful, does it?
